Welcome!
Welcome to the Trombone Wiki, aka WikiBone.
The WikiBone project is planned to be an all-encompassing source of reference for the trombone, trombonists, music, and all manner of information regarding performance, education, reviews, repairs, and research for the instrument.
Like all wiki-based sites, WikiBone encourages those with interest and motivation to become content creators, compilers, editors, and administrators of the site.
WikiBone is intended to become a peer-reviewed repository for all available information regarding the trombone and affiliated instruments. This will include, but is not limited to...
- Instruments
- Accessories
- Manufacturers of instruments, both past and present
- Technical and engineering details
- Performers, both past and present
- Reviews
- etc.
...and the list goes on.
This is a grand experiment; we have hopes for its ultimate success, but this success will rely on you, the trombonists of the world, to volunteer.
Staff Volunteers
Volunteers will be divided into three broad-based categories:
Writers and Content Creators
Wiki writers and content creators will be drawn from among the great number of performers on the instrument, as well as those conversant with its history and future.
Editors
Editors, well, edit. Mercilessly. With no thought to the feelings of others. :-) Requirements are a solid understanding of English and the ability to religiously adhere to a style guide.
Administrators
Care and feeding duties, as to be expected with any large-scale site.
If you are interested in becoming a writer, simply visit http://trombonewiki.org and create your account. EVERYTHING IS CURRENTLY LOCKED as I create the hierarchy and add features to the software, but when the site is opened, sometime in mid- to late-March, you will already be pre-registered.
If you are interested in becoming an editor, send email to editor-request AT wikibone.org, with a recent resume or CV, as well as a statement of why you feel you'd be a good choice as an editor.
All interested parties are invited to create an account and join in this collaborative effort; however, please note that WikiBone will be a peer-reviewed publication. This means that not all content submitted will be published. WikiBone, while loosely affiliated with the Trombone Forum, will be nothing at all like it, neither in content or management. Think of it more as an academic journal if it helps.
Content and Copyright
Fair use, copyright, and creative commons directives and restrictions will be stringently observed, a la Wikipedia. Any material used from other sites will be properly cited/footnooted/credit given. Permission will be sought as well. WikiBone runs the same software as Wikipedia (Mediawiki), and will rigorously follow The Five Pillars of WikiBone and well as adhering to the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.5 deed.
Use the email address above if you wish to receive further information on WikiBone.
