References
- Articles should contain as many references as possible.
- References to other WikiBone articles (internal references) are preferred over references to other sources (external references).
- As new articles are added to the wiki, old articles should be reviewed on a periodic basis with the intention of adding internal references to new articles and replacing external references with internal references wherever possible.
- External references should not be used in the body of an article. Footnotes should be used instead, and they should refer to external references listed at the end of the article.
- On pages that contain an index (i.e. most pages with multiple sections), include a paragraph before the index (i.e. before the first section heading) briefly summarizing what readers can expect to find on the page, why they should read it, etc. This summary need not contain links to other parts of the page since it is followed immediately by the index.
- All pages about WikiBone itself should reside in the "WikiBone" namespace; all other top-level namespaces should contain actual wiki content. Note that this means, for example, anything useful in the "Help" namespace should be moved (and edited as appropriate) to the "WikiBone:Help" namespace.
- Use descriptive text rather than raw URLs or wiki paths wherever possible:
- Right: See the help page for additional information.
- Wrong: See WikiBone:Help for additional information.
- Never use "here" as link text:
- Right: See Doug Yeo's web site for additional information.
- Wrong: You'll find Doug Yeo's web site here.
